Global privacy expectations of video teleconference providers

Are video-conferencing software companies keeping your data safe?

If you, like many others, have been relying on video conferencing software to keep your business running smoothly, you may want to be aware of the risks involving the collection of your personal data.

Data and privacy protection authorities have joined together to publish an open letter reminding video conferencing software companies such as Microsoft, Zoom and Google of their obligations to data privacy laws. The letter also identifies key risks and best practises to better protect personal information.

The letter is signed by the Global Privacy Assembly’s International Enforcement Cooperation Working Group, which is a collection of six authorities from Australia, Canada, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, and Switzerland and the UK.

You can read the full letter here and check to see if your preferred software is keeping your data safe and secure.
